Every year, the BINGO Family marks the occasion of Pink Day in October by showing up in our best pink attire in support of the McGrath Foundation, and to raise awareness of breast cancer.
This year, BINGO also donated $10 from the sale of every skip bin to the McGrath Foundation during the month of October, raising over $22,000.
BINGO has supported the McGrath Foundation since 2014 and in that time have assisted in raising over $620,000.
Don’t forget your check-up
This year for Pink Day, BINGO were honoured to have McGrath Foundation Founder, Tracy Bevan speak to the team about the amazing work of the Foundation does and the importance of monitoring for breast cancer.
“This year, due to the health crisis we have seen a 37 per cent drop in breast cancer screenings due to COVID-19. Women are just not getting out to their doctors to have their mammograms or check-ups. This is a really worrying trend. It means there are potentially 8,000 women in Australia today who do not know that they have breast cancer.” Tracy said.
"And early diagnosis is the best defense against the disease,” she said.
The McGrath Foundation provide an essential support through their McGrath Breast Care Nurses for patients and their families going through breast cancer treatment.
Currently the McGrath Foundation have 151 dedicated and highly-qualified Breast Care Nurses across Australia who provide patients and their loved ones with physical, emotional and psychosocial support.
“We call our McGrath Breast Care Nurses ‘angels’. The support they provide makes a breast cancer experience more manageable. We find many people with breast cancer feel comfortable asking their breast care nurse questions they don’t want to burden their loved ones with,” Tracy said.
“Our McGrath Breast Care Nurses are completely free and anyone going through treatment can self-refer by visiting our McGrath Foundation website,” she said.
