The recent ‘one-in-a-1,000’ year rainfall event has caused significant impacts to Greater Sydney’s network of waste assets, including putrescible waste transfer stations and landfills.
The impacts of these severe weather events are being experienced industry-wide across the NSW supply-chain, with significant delays and reduction of waste services capacity.
To assist in easing congestion and delays in C&I and other putrescible waste services, the NSW Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has approved temporary emergency changes to BINGO’s Environment Protection License for two of our recycling facilities to accept putrescible commercial & industrial (C&I) waste, these facilities are:
- Auburn Recycling Facility
3/5 Duck St, Auburn NSW 2144 - Eastern Creek Materials Processing Centre 1 (MPC1)
1 Kangaroo Ave, Eastern Creek NSW 2766
Environmental impact mitigation measures
Any C&I waste will be stored and managed in line with all EPA requirements, these include:
- C&I waste will be on site at either of the above facilities for no longer than 24 hours;
- The volume of C&I waste on site at any one time at either site will be no more than approximately 200 tonnes;
- Comprehensive vermin, pest, leachate and odour management strategies are maintained at each facility;
- The putrescible C&I waste at both Eastern Creek and Auburn will be contained in a shed and stored in a bay, segregated from other waste at the facility; and
- The use of deoderisers at each facility.
- The C&I waste will be tipped and temporarily stored within enclosed materials processing centres. It will not be disposed of in BINGO’s landfill.
