BINGO launches ‘Know Before You Throw’ Hazardous Waste Campaign

BINGO's latest safety initiative, ‘Know Before You Throw’, is an education campaign designed to help businesses and individuals understand how to safely dispose of hazardous waste, particularly batteries.

‘Know Before You Throw’ aims to make people aware of the dangers of disposing of hazardous waste and connecting them with resources and schemes. We provide information specifically on the safe disposal of batteries (including vapes and power tools), asbestos and silica dust based on someone’s location.

For example, the recycling and disposal options for vapes in Australia differ depending on whether the vape is reusable or single-use. Similarly, safe battery disposal options for power tools vary depending on if the battery is removable. ‘Know Before You Throw’ provides information to help people manage these scenarios.

Why It Matters

Did you know it is estimated there are over 10,000 battery-related fires a year across waste and recycling streams in Australia. By educating and guiding the community on safe disposal methods, we aim to prevent such incidents and safeguard our environment.
