Tell us a bit about yourself.

I'm Lisa and I’m the Marketing Manager at BINGO. I completed a Bachelor of Commerce in 2019 at the University of New South Wales majoring in Marketing. A little fun fact about me is that my parents are BIG Elvis fans, so fittingly I’m named after Lisa-Marie Presley. I even had the “privilege” of visiting Graceland in Memphis!

BINGO was my first corporate role and 5 years later I’m still here today, so time really flies when you’re having fun. I’ve been told that I “Bleed Orange” as I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of the extraordinary journey and transformation of a family run business, to a public company and now under the ownership of MIRA. I’ve built quite the reputation for being the “Go-to-Girl”, so I like to think that my strengths lie with being able to strategise and execute numerous marketing initiatives that might be occurring simultaneously.

So why marketing and why in the waste industry?

Freshly out of school and off the back of the Premier’s all-round excellence award for my ATAR achievement I struggled with the daunting decision like any 18-year-old on what’s next? I knew I had a passion for business and working with a variety of stakeholders and that’s about it. After attending countless university open days and listening to industry experts I immediately discovered my passion for Marketing. The multi-faceted nature of such a career which touched on innovation, market research, competitor analysis, digital transformation and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders unlocked my appetite to be a part of this. I can say that I have not looked back since. No two days are ever the same in Marketing at BINGO and that’s why I love it – It keeps you on your toes. One day you’ll be transforming a recycling centre into a Coachella event and the next you will be strategising on marketing campaigns.

I have to be honest here, what started off as a temporary “after school” job at BINGO quickly evolved into a strong and genuine passion for sustainability. The more knowledge and experience I gained around what we were doing to push resource recovery through innovation in the Waste industry blew my mind. There is definitely more than ‘meets the eye of waste’ which was an assumption I made far too quickly. The company’s passion for sustainability and push for a circular economy is a massive synergy of my own ethos – that what we do today impacts our future generations.

What are three tips of yours for working and staying healthy?

Bingo Industries

Stay Healthy

With the stress and pressure of working and studying a healthy life and mind is a priority. In all the craziness take the time to regain your composure and recharge.

Bingo Industries

Reward Yourself

enjoy the journey and celebrate the wins, no matter how small they are, make the time to recognise your achievements that take you one step closer to your goals.

Bingo Industries

Have a good routine

make sure your time management is balanced between the two. Plan your activities for the week and get into a good rhythm. If you’re going out for Friday drinks and you have an assignment due on Monday - Plan for it.

How do you manage your work life balance

I have always valued my career and my personal life equally. While working at BINGO, I found that the balance of both has not been difficult. Especially with BINGO's emphasis on family. I found the encouragement of a collaborative environment along with a motivated team makes for a productive and enjoyable workplace.
I have never shied away from contributing what was needed to get the job done. However, coming from a big family, and planning my wedding this year I am also aware of the importance of family and prioritising my personal life as well.

From a practical perspective, I try to set boundaries, organise my work by planning my weeks in advance and by making the most of my weekends!

What’s something that you’ve loved working on and were really proud of when you finished?

I have been lucky enough to be a part of some amazing Marketing initiatives such as BINGO’s rebrand, E-commerce website, events, education program and MyBINGO. A particular project that I loved working on was the roll out of BINGO’s rebrand and repositioning strategy framework in 2018. The challenge we had to overcome was repositioning BINGO from a ‘Bins’ collections business when in fact we are so much more. Through a series of initiatives and channels we repositioned BINGO to play a key role in Australia’s transition to a circular economy. This demonstrated our commitment to building a strong, sustainable recycling industry. Hence, we strategically rebranded BINGO Bins to BINGO Industries that was all-encompassing on BINGO’s end-to-end waste solution that is focused on recycling, closing the loop and recovery of valuable materials. From this our mission “Pushing for a Waste Free Australia” was born. This project in its entirety took over 2 years to complete which included the branding platform, EVP and updating physical and digital assets such as the website, bins, trucks, uniform and comms platform.

What's next for Lisa Tizzone?

Well, hopefully these boarders open up so I can enjoy a much-needed honeymoon! On a serious note, I can’t wait to grow professionally and personally. Knowledge is key, so I can’t wait to learn more about the industry and lead some exciting initiatives over the next 12 months.

The impacts of recent severe weather events are being experienced industry-wide across the NSW waste supply-chain, with significant delays and reduction of waste services capacity. To assist in easing congestion and delays in commercial & industrial (C&I) and other putrescible waste services, the NSW Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has approved emergency changes to BINGO’s Environment Protection License for our Auburn and Eastern Creek recycling facilities to temporarily accept putrescible C&I waste.
