In any case, liquid waste all require Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved manners of storage, transportation and disposal. Undoubtedly, Bingo has invested heavily in becoming an industry leader in liquid waste and liquid hazardous waste disposal and are operational 24/7. Therefore, you can count on Bingo liquid waste solutions for emergency liquid waste requests, servicing low-access areas, grease trap cleaning and disposing of large volumes of liquid waste. Although we are able to safely transport and dispose of your liquid or hazardous waste, it must be stored correctly.

Above all, storing your liquid waste correctly ensures you are protecting the environment, your business and your staff from harm. Remember, businesses that handle liquid waste in a way that is threatening to the environment can be issued with a legal notice, fined or even face court action. Never, ever consider disposing of your liquid waste down a stormwater drain as these flow directly to local waterways and if contaminated, can seriously harm the public and the environment.

For this reason, it is always preferable to keep a minimum amount of liquid or hazardous waste as possible on your premises. Bund walls or covered areas are the safest option for storage to minimise risks. To select a place on your premises for these areas, consider the following points:
Selecting a safe liquid hazardous waste storage area:

  • Drums should not be stacked. Thus, the area should be large enough. The contents of a drum should be protected if it were to tip over. It is preferable to ensure the area does not require the liquids to be transported too far from where they are collected to where they are stored. Therefore, the area should not be located in a high traffic position.
  • It is highly recommended you reconsider the position of your storage area if there are stormwater drains located in or around the area you are planning to store these liquids. Any accidental spillage in the storage area could result in liquids moving down the stormwater drain.

Setting up a safe liquid waste storage area:
The construction and labelling of this area should promote the highest level of safety for the environment and your staff.
  • Designated liquid area should be clearly labelled. Liquids should be clearly stored.
  • Use bunds that will contain spills and leaks and not inhibit clean-up operations.
  • Barriers should be resistant to chemical reactions.
  • Use spill containment systems that will minimise the likelihood of drums tipping over and causing a spill outside the designated containment area.
  • The contents of storage drums and vessels should be clearly labelled.
  • Ensure the bunds are large enough to contain 100% of the volume of the largest tank contained within them. Bund walls should be at least 25% of the total volume of the liquid waste stored. The capacity of the bunds should be increased to allow for the capture of firewater if contents is flammable.
  • Design the bunds so it is easy to move the liquid waste containers by forklift or to pump out the contents of the containers.

Storing the liquids:
Once you have a secure area it is vital you continue to store the liquids in a safe manner until they can be collected and disposed of by the Bingo team. It is important you store liquid waste in drums or containers that are not rusted, dented or show signs of deterioration. This can compromise the security of the liquids within the drums and allow for the possibility of spills or leaks.

BINGO Community Notice C&I EPL

The impacts of recent severe weather events are being experienced industry-wide across the NSW waste supply-chain, with significant delays and reduction of waste services capacity. To assist in easing congestion and delays in commercial & industrial (C&I) and other putrescible waste services, the NSW Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has approved emergency changes to BINGO’s Environment Protection License for our Auburn and Eastern Creek recycling facilities to temporarily accept putrescible C&I waste.
