It is National Reconciliation Week (NRW) and the theme for 2024 is Now More Than Ever.
The NRW is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, recognise their contributions, and reaffirm our dedication to fostering genuine relationships based on mutual respect and trust.
At BINGO, our vision for reconciliation is for a nation that celebrates its First Nations cultures, and values the perspectives, knowledge and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, working together to realise their aspirations to nurture and protect Country.
NRW is an opportunity to reflect on our achievements so far, but also to recognise the work we all need to be part of to achieve a more inclusive and educated workplace when it comes to First Nations history.
Advancing our commitment to action
BINGO is one of about 3000 organisations in Australia who have committed to a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) which outlines the commitment to fostering a culture of respect, understanding, and inclusion.
This year, we are proud to announce that the BINGO’s RAP committee is working on our third RAP which will be a Stretch RAP. A Stretch RAP means that we are advancing to a higher level of commitment and maturity on our journey to supporting reconciliation.
Our RAP committee has done a fantastic job in steering us in the right direction through meaningful action and by educating our workforce on First Nations history and culture. But reconciliation is an ongoing journey that requires dedication, empathy, and collective action.
As we commemorate Reconciliation Action Week 2024, let's continue working together towards a future where respect and understanding are the foundation of our reconciliation journey.
Djurwa celebrates National Reconciliation Week 2024
The team at Djurwa, BINGO’s joint venture with Yalagan, organised a lunch during the week for BINGO employees in West Melbourne to mark the occasion. Attendees were invited to hear from Nathan Martin, Managing Director of Djurwa, and Natalie Davies, Indigenous Engagement Manager, about the importance of Reconciliation Week.
The event opened with a Welcome to Country by a local Elder, followed by a Smoking Ceremony.
