Maintenance and drilling works commencing on Monday 22 May 2023

Notification of maintenance and drilling works commencing on Monday 22 May 2023 at BINGO’s Eastern Creek Landfill

On 11 March 2022, BINGO received formal approval from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) to install a permanent landfill gas flare and collection system at our Eastern Creek Landfill facility. The works for the permanent gas flares and gas collection system were completed in December 2022. This system requires maintenance to maintain optimum operation.

BINGO wishes to inform residents adjacent to our Eastern Creek Recycling Ecology Park that to ensure the gas collection system continues to operate at its optimum levels, maintenance and drilling works will take place for a two-week period commencing from Monday 22 May 2023.  All drilling works will only take place during day shift between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.

What works will be taking place?

The tasks that will be undertaken during the two-week period will include:

1.    Drilling of up to 18 wells.

2.    Capping and sealing of all holes and wells at the completion of each day.

3.    An upgrade of the leachate extraction system and the installation of combination wells (for extraction of both gas and leachate).

4.    Installation and maintenance of odour control measures including deodorisers and misting fans that have proven successful for similar related works in the past.

What is BINGO doing to prevent odour during the works?

In addition to the use of deodorisers and misting fans, we will continue to monitor the gas system and conditions in the landfill. Proposed works will be adjusted to account for changing weather conditions, including cessation of drilling if conditions are unfavourable (such as strong winds from the south/southwest)

Why are the works needed?

The works form a critical part of our commitment to manage landfill gas and odour at the Eastern Creek site.

Landfill gas collection systems need constant maintenance in part due to the natural attrition of gas wells, and to ensure the system continues to operate efficiently, gas wells often need to be repaired and new wells drilled.

Drilling works are necessary at this time to add new wells to the collection system, which will ensure the gas collection system at the Eastern Creek site continues to operate at its optimum levels.
