Notification of works at Eastern Creek site and update on previous works

As part of our commitment to provide regular updates on to residents and neighbours to our Eastern Creek Recycling Ecology Park regarding works to the landfill gas (LFG) extraction and treatment system, we provide an update below on works foreshadowed in the previous update and note upcoming maintenance works from Monday 3 June 2024.

Progress updates on works noted in the 24 April 2024 update:

The maintenance works undertaken to the permanent flares were completed in early May.

We have yet to commence the proposed drilling works program by our landfill gas agreement partner, LGI Limited (LGI) to increase the number of wells at the landfill and BINGO will notify the community in advance of the proposed works, including sequence of tasks and mitigation procedures. The drilling works to extend the well network of the LFG infrastructure will help LGI increase gas extraction to recover the landfill gas, helping BINGO improve environmental outcomes for the Eastern Creek site and neighbouring areas.

What works are taking place from 3 June 2024?

BINGO and our landfill gas agreement partner, LGI have identified maintenance works required to improve the efficiency and operations of our landfill gas extraction and treatment system. This is part of our ongoing commitment to the community to manage landfill gas at the Eastern Creek site.

The works will include re-drilling of 10 to 15 existing wells in the landfill and is expected to commence from Monday 3 June and conclude by Friday 7 June. All works will be undertaken during operational hours from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Why are the works needed?

The works are necessary to ensure existing well network is maintained in order to maximise the extraction of landfill gas, by removing any blockages and identifying wells which require repair. The system requires regular and ongoing maintenance, and adjustments to ensure that the controls continue to operate efficiently, including at times taking certain parts of the system offline as required.

What is BINGO doing to prevent odour during the works?

Each well will be re-sealed after re-drilling is complete, and we do not expect any odour in connection with these works.  As a precaution, a mobile odour control spray unit will be used an additional control for the duration of the works, to supplement our existing odour prevention measures.

What should I do if I have an issue?

If community members have any concerns, please call BINGO’s environmental hotline on 1300 032 747 or contact us

We will continue to provide regular updates through our partnership with LGI to keep the community informed, including when any works, which may have the potential to increase odour are being undertaken.
