We are pleased to have taken another important step towards our goal of achieving 100% renewable energy in our operations by 2025, aligned with our commitment to RE100.
On 2 December, we completed our latest solar power project which includes the installations of solar panels to an additional five BINGO sites, which are now operating on solar energy. These sites include:
- Artarmon
- Auburn Head Office and workshop
- Auburn TORO
- Braeside TORO
- Greenacre
In 2021, BINGO partnered with Planet Ark Power to commence installation of solar at these sites, with BINGO’s Mortdale and Auburn recycling centres already being powered by solar energy.
The project is an important step in delivering on our strategic priority and commitment to sustainability, as we look to implement a number of renewable energy projects to reduce emissions, reduce our operational cost of electricity, and increase the overall use of renewable energy.
What have we achieved?
Since May 2021, the selected sites progressed through design, procurement, installation and commissioning. The project included an upgrade of the electrical infrastructure at Auburn head office, to allow for the solar power system connection.
In total, 519 solar PV panels were installed as part of the project, which takes our total number of solar panels in use to 1608. This project will see us reduce our carbon emissions by 234,000 kg/year which is equivalent to 3,869 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.
What happens next?
MPC2, our state-of-the-art recycling facility at Eastern Creek, is the next site to commence solar panel installations in early 2023. MPC2 is a significantly larger project and will consist of over 2,000 solar PV panels - that’s four times the size of the recently upgraded sites combined.
