Renewable energy to power MPC 2

Renewable energy to power MPC 2

The solar panel installation is now underway at MPC 2 at Eastern Creek. BINGO is committed to RE100 and achieving 100% renewable energy used for its operations by 2025.

The installation at MPC2 will consist of more than 2,000 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, which is four times the size of the recently upgraded sites combined (Artarmon, Auburn Head Office & workshop, Auburn TORO, Braeside TORO and Greenacre).

“This project and our commitment to RE100 is an important step in delivering on our strategic priority of sustainability as we look to reduce our CO2 emissions, reduce our operational costs, and increase our overall use of renewable energy in the business,” said Matt Hyatt, Head of Sustainability.

“Eastern Creek is our biggest solar power undertaking to date and once completed, it will reduce BINGO’s electricity demand from the grid at Eastern Creek by approximately 20%.”

“Designing and installing the system for MPC 2 has required careful consideration towards the complex operational nature of MPC 2,” said Daniel Attuell, Mechanical Engineer.

“The contribution and ongoing support from the site operations teams, led by Jim Sarkis and Adam Mensforth, is greatly appreciated and resonates with our One Team, One Family value.

“A big shout out to the Construction & Engineering (C&E) team and the wider MPC 2 team for the complex work they’re delivering.”

What’s next?

When the installation at Eastern Creek wraps up, more than 3,600 solar PV panels will have been installed at BINGO sites. In conjunction with these works, BINGO will be implementing an energy minimisation program to reduce our electricity consumption starting at the Eastern Creek Recycling Ecology Park.

Additional solar panel installations as well as other renewable energy projects are currently being evaluated to further reduce our emissions and reliance on the grid.

If you have an idea to reduce BINGO’s emissions don’t hesitate to reach out to Matt Hyatt, Head of Sustainability, to discuss further.

RE100

BINGO’s RE100 membership forms a part of our Climate Change Action Plan which also includes a commitment to align our financial disclosures to the UN Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). RE100 is a global initiative led by The Climate Group, an international non-profit committed to accelerating climate action in partnership with the CDP. Read more here.
