Skip Bins: The Three Different Types
Across Victoria, the Construction and Development (C&D) Industry is growing at exponential rates to cater for market and consumer demands, population increases and city density. To ensure sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices, C&D companies are actively involved in efficient waste handling and disposal. This includes using products and materials that can be reprocessed.
With C&D being a large and expanding activity, we provide an extensive range of waste management and recycling services across the industry. One way is through the supply of Bingo’s Skip Bins available for hire across Melbourne. It is essential that these bin types are used to manage waste generated in accordance with sustainability guidelines.
The three types of skip bins include:
- Marrel Skip Bins
- Hook Skip Bins
- Hook Craneable Skip Bins
Marrel bins are generally smaller than hook bins and are chain lifted onto the back of a marrel truck. Marrel bins have the capacity to hold materials that are either light or heavy in weight. Hook bins on the other hand are larger than marrel bins and are manoeuvred using a hook arm connected to the back of a hook truck. Hook bins are generally more suitable for a high volume of light waste.
Hook craneable skip bins are operated using cranes and are suited to any small to large scale building & construction or demolition project.
How to Choose the Right Skip Bin
When determining which waste bin is most suitable, it is important to consider the following factors:
- The contents of the skip bin
- The amount of waste estimated to be generated
- The frequency of pick-ups and changeovers
Skip bins can be used to dispose of various waste streams.
What Can Go in a Skip Bin?
The nature of the materials accepted in skip bins is broad and diverse. Examples of waste types that are accepted include:
- Bricks
- Concrete
- Tiles
- Metal
- Gyprock
- Plasterboard
- Timber
- Green Waste
- Sand and soil
- Furniture
- White goods
- Rubble
However, some waste that is generated on a C&D site is not accepted in a skip bin. This includes material such as:
- Asbestos (which must be placed in a speciality bin)
- Fibro (including cement sheeting or compressed)
- Chemicals
- Old insulation
- Foods and liquids
For items as such, Bingo provides speciality bins for all waste management needs.
For all accepted skip bins, Bingo transports these back to a Bingo Recycling Centre for sorting and separating. Bingo aims to salvage as many materials through its recycling processes. This maximises the product’s potential life span whilst implementing Bingo’s environmentally-friendly practices of reducing, reusing and recycling.
Currently, we have four recycling centres across Melbourne in Braeside, Campbellfield, Clayton South and West Melbourne.
