As part of our commitment to provide regular updates on to residents and neighbours to our Eastern Creek Recycling Ecology Park regarding works to the landfill gas (LFG) extraction and treatment system, we provide an update below on works foreshadowed in the previous updates on 3 and 6 June 2024 and note proposed works in the coming months.
Progress updates on works noted in 3 and 6 June updates:
The landfill gas extraction and treatment system requires regular and ongoing maintenance and as indicated in previous updates, adjustments are required during the works, including at times taking certain parts of the system offline as required.
The maintenance works noted in 3 and 6 June updates included drilling 15 new gas extraction wells to ensure the network is maintained to maximise the extraction of landfill gas. We used this time to attend to repairs, which included general pipe repairs on the leachate riser extraction.
These works have now been completed and will assist in improving the efficiency and operations of the LFG system.
Future works at Eastern Creek:
As foreshadowed in our 19 April update and part of ongoing maintenance, our landfill gas agreement partner, LGI Limited (LGI) will be undertaking drilling works to increase the number of gas extraction wells at the landfill.
This is expected to take place in August 2024, and more details about the works and timeframe will be noted in upcoming updates. These proposed works will extend the well network of the gas infrastructure and will help LGI increase gas extraction to recover the landfill gas.
BINGO will undertake maintenance works to the leachate riser in July 2024. More details, including the timeframe and scope of works will be posted on our website in upcoming weeks.
