As part of our commitment to provide regular updates to residents and neighbours to our Eastern Creek Recycling Ecology Park regarding works to the landfill gas (LFG) extraction and treatment system, we would like to provide notification on proposed works at the site over the coming period.
Scope of works commencing from 26 June 2024:
As foreshadowed in previous community updates, the landfill gas extraction and treatment system require regular and ongoing maintenance and adjustments are required, including at times taking certain parts of the system offline as required.
The works planned from Wednesday 26 June to Friday 28 June will include drilling 10 to 15 new shallow extraction wells (these are new wells in addition to the wells installed over the last two weeks) to ensure the network is maintained to maximise the extraction of landfill gas. All works will be undertaken during operational hours from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.
In the case of adverse weather conditions, the works will continue from Monday 1 July to Friday 5 July during operational hours. No works will take place over the weekend (22 to 23 June).
What is BINGO doing to prevent odour during the works?
Each well will be sealed after the drilling is completed, and we do not expect any odour in connection with these works. As a precaution, a mobile odour control spray unit will be used an additional control for the duration of the works, to supplement our existing odour prevention measures.
Future works at Eastern Creek site:
As foreshadowed in our 15 June update:
- our landfill gas agreement partner, LGI Limited (LGI) will undertake deep drilling works to increase the number of wells at the landfill in August 2024;
- proposed maintenance works to the leachate riser will be undertaken in July 2024.
More details about the scope of works and timeframes will be provided in upcoming updates.
What should I do if I have an issue?
If community members have any concerns, please call BINGO’s environmental hotline on 1300 032 747 or contact us
We will continue to provide regular updates to keep the community informed, including when any works, which may have the potential to increase odour are being undertaken.
