What can go in a skip bin?

Got waste? Know what can GO

A skip bin can be used for anything from green waste and household items to construction and demolition waste. It will also hold plastics, furniture, glass and whitegoods. But there are a few things you can’t toss like asbestos, chemicals and toxic waste. Here are some do’s and don’ts on what can and can’t go in your skip bin.

Allowed in a skip bin

These items can go in a skip bin:
Mixed building waste
Includes bricks, concrete (dry), tiles, gyprock, plasterboard, metal, rubble, soil, sand, rocks and stones.
Green waste
Includes small tree logs (less 50cm thick), grass clipping, shrub/yard clippings and timber waste.
Furniture
Includes household furniture, bed bases, old couches, lounges, tables and more.
Household appliances
Includes white goods & kitchen goods.
Plastics (PVC Piping)
Can be recycled
Carpet and underlay
can be recycled

Additional cost items

These items can go in a skip bin, at an additional cost:
Stumps
Includes tree logs and branches (over 0.5m)
Mattresses
Includes single, double, queen or king size mattresses

Prohibited items

Heavy charges may apply if following items are discovered in your bin. BINGO also reserves the right to refuse pickup or request pick up from a third party if required: 
Asbestos waste
Cannot be properly recovered
Rubber tyres
Includes car and truck tyres, casings, seconds, shredded tyres or tyre pieces.
Silica dust
Includes brick, cement, concrete, drywall, grout, or tiles with silica
Fibreglass roof sheeting
Cannot be properly recovered
Fibro (compressed or not)
Includes fibro cement sheeting.
Food & liquids
Includes food packaging, liquid foods & takeout containers.
Fire extinguishers
Cannot be recovered
Batteries - All types
Includes car, lithium, electric tool and toy batteries
Gas bottles
Cannot be recovered
Liquid waste - Chemicals and paints
Includes empty paint tins and spray cans.
Medical waste
Includes needles, syringes, soiled dressings, diagnostic samples, blood, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and radioactive materials
Oil heaters
Cannot be properly recovered
Resin
Cannot be properly recovered
Safety

Remember not to overload your skip

Overloaded bins can be unsafe. Follow these simple rules to load your bin safely:

  1. Don’t fill your bin above the rim
  2. Evenly distribute the weight of your waste - load heavy items on the bottom and lighter items on the top
  3. Make sure you have the right bin for the right type of waste
