Skip Bins Types and Sizes

Get a bin that’s right for you

You’ve finally committed to that bathroom renovation or kicked off that big DIY project and you’ve got waste that’s gotta GO. But which skip bin do you choose? With so many skip bin sizes and types available, it can be tricky to select the right bin for your needs. We’ve made it simple and easy to find a bin that’s right for you. Let’s GO.

What size Skip Bin should I choose?

The skip bin size you choose depends on three things. The type of waste, the weight and size of the items and where it’s placed. Start by thinking about the biggest items you’re discarding and work your way from there.

When it comes to bins, bigger is not necessarily better, but you may find that once you get started you have more waste than you initially thought. Most people tend to underestimate the amount of waste they have, so you may find it’s better to go up a size, rather than having to order a second bin later. Make sure you’re familiar with what can go in a skip bin before you start loading.

The final thing to consider on size is where you’re going to place your skip bin. Are you putting it in your driveway? On the road? The footpath? If it’s going on your driveway, you may want to measure the width to make sure you have enough space. And remember, if you plan on placing it on the street or footpath, you may need a council permit.

What types of skip bins are available?

The type of skip bin you choose also depends on the type of waste you’re removing. If you have heavier material like concrete, you’ll need to choose a special bin that will accommodate the weight. Let us know what type of waste you’re discarding when you book your bin.

There are two types or styles of skip bins - marrell skip bins and hook skip bins. The names refer to how the bins are loaded onto the trucks. A marrel bin is lifted by a chain onto the back of a marrel truck and a hook bin is lifted by a hook arm that pulls the bin onto the truck. There is a second type of hook bin that is lifted using a crane. We also supply the 240L site ‘wheelie’ bins that are used by builders and tradies.

Marrell Skip Bins

Marrell bins have the capacity to hold light and heavy materials. A marrell is ideal for households as they are generally smaller and can easily be placed on a driveway. Compared to a hook bin, marrells can fit in tighter spaces like driveways and where space is restricted. Some marrell bins come with a side barrow door, so it is easier to load your bulky waste.

Hook Skip Bins

Hook bins are larger bins that are generally suited for a high volume of light waste. A hook bin is ideal for large trade and DIY projects. All hook bins have a back tailgate door for easy loading

Site bins

Site or wheelie bins are used for portable or lightweight materials. They are generally used by builders and on large-scale construction sites.
